Two Types of Article Indexes
Which article index to use depends upon your topic.

1. General Article Indexes

  •  Is your topic general or cross-disciplinary?
  •  Currently in the news?

If so, start with one of the general article indexes. These cover a wide range of subjects and often index a mixture of popular and scholarly sources. This is often a good place to begin research. Examples of general indexes and the kinds of articles they identify are:

WilsonWeb
Multidisciplinary, 100% full text database from many Wilson databases; indexes articles from 1994 to the present.
EBSCOhost Collection of over 20 databases of various types of subject topics; most are full text.
InfoTrac
Indexes articles from magazines and newspapers on many topics, from 1980 to present. Most are full text.
