About the Career
Before you see your physician during a typical office visit, it's very likely you'll interact with a medical assistant first. Medical assistants serve an important role on the healthcare team by performing a wide variety of clinical and clerical skills. Can I enroll part-time in the program?
Yes. Many students have jobs, families and other responsibilities and prefer to take the program over 4 or 5 terms. Students are admitted into the program for the fall start only. However, general class work can be taken ahead of time. The auto-tutorial lab is an open-lab allowing students to determine the times of skill practice and check-off. Internet enhancement of courses also allows students to complete coursework at times and places convenient to them.
Will completing the Medical Assistant program give me advanced standing in other programs?
General education classes and other classes taken at the associate degree level are transferable to other programs. While many of the procedures and skills in the Medical Assistant program are taught in other programs, most other programs have not recognized medical assistant classes in terms of granting credits for course work.
What are the benefits of a career in medical assisting?
Medical assistants are versatile members of the health care team. They are specifically trained to assist licensed health care providers in ambulatory settings. Medical assistants enjoy personal relationships with patients as well as interacting with other members of the professional health care team.
