About the Career
Accidents sudden, severe illness–medical emergencies can happen at any time, in any place. Survival often depends on the initial care the injured or severely ill person receives at the scene.
If you're calm under pressure, compassionate, good at problem solving, and have the desire to help people in need, a career as an emergency medical technician (EMT) may be an excellent choice for you.

Career Outlook
Employment of emergency medical technicians and paramedics is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2010. Population growth and urbanization will increase the demand for full-time paid EMTs. In addition, a large segment of the population–the aging baby boomers–will further spur demand for EMT services, as they become more likely to have medical emergencies.

Potential Positions
Upon successful completion and state licensure, graduates may be employed as EMTs in the following areas:
Ambulance Services
First Responder Units
Hospital Emergency Services
Industrial Positions
Volunteer Fire Departments
