Rhonda SchultzCLEVELAND, WI
Rhonda Schultz, instructional assistant to the pharmacy technician program at Lakeshore Technical College, has been elected regional director of the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin – Technician Section.

The PSW is an organization of pharmacists and technicians throughout Wisconsin whose mission is “to provide leadership in advocacy, education and pharmacy practice that improves patient care through the safe and effective use of medications,” according to its Web site.

Schultz was elected by the PSW Board of Directors to a two-year term as Region D Director of the Technician Section. Region D includes the Lakeshore area, the Fox Valley area and Oshkosh.

Schultz has been a member of the PSW for several years. As region director, she will serve as a representative for hundreds of pharmacy technicians and as a liaison between the technicians and the PSW Board of Directors.

As pharmacy technicians’ roles are expanding to include pharmacy management, the PSW Technician Section will examine the future of pharmacy technician careers, including promoting technician recognition and education.

LTC offers several options for those interested in the pharmacy technician field. A one-year pharmacy technician technical diploma program is presented through interactive television classes in cooperation with many technical colleges across the state.

LTC also offers a two-year pharmacy services management associate degree program that prepares individuals to advance their roles as pharmacy technicians or to transition into related roles in the workplace. Working pharmacy technicians also may earn a technician certificate through online classes.

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in a variety of technical tasks, including packaging and labeling drugs for prescription dispensing, maintaining records and facilitating communications for third-party reimbursement. LTC’s 2005-06 pharmacy technician program grads had a 94% job placement rate.
