Dental volunteers brightened the smiles of approximately 70 underserved children at “Give Kids a Smile Day” held recently at Lakeshore Technical College’s Lakeshore Community Dental Clinic.

The approximately 25 volunteers were comprised of area dentists and dental assistants, LTC dental assistant and hygiene students and LTC staff members. All volunteers donated their time and services, which included cleanings, fillings, sealants and extractions.

The event was part of the American Dental Association’s Give Kids a Smile Day, a nationwide effort to provide free dental services to children from lower income families. In addition to providing services, the event brings much-needed attention to the lack of dental care for children in need.

Throughout the year, the Lakeshore Community Dental Clinic serves residents of Sheboygan and Manitowoc counties who receive medical assistance. LTC partners with volunteer area dental professionals and LTC dental assistant and hygiene students to provide the services. The clinic served more than 500 people during the 2006-07 school year.
