Lakeshore Technical College recently recognized community leaders and students at its 37th Annual Awards Banquet.

LTC President Mike Lanser, LTC Board Chair Cindy Huhn and LTC Student Recruitment and Activities Specialist Tammie Stahl officiated at the event.

Jennifer Klimstra received the 2008 Educational Leadership Award. The Educational Leadership Award is given annually to an individual who exhibits outstanding service above self in building an educational foundation to help others become their personal best.

While working in human resources at Johnsonville Sausage, Klimstra created the Project GRILL (Growing Readiness In Learning & Leading) program in Sheboygan County. The project promotes careers in manufacturing and is a collaborative partnership between employers and education.

Klimstra worked closely with Lakeshore Technical College, area high schools and local businesses to create a program that not only inspires young people to learn more about the manufacturing field and but also ultimately creates a workforce for the future.

Rick Philipps received the 2008 Alumnus of the Year Award. The Alumnus of the Year Award is given annually to an LTC graduate who has achieved both professional and personal success.

Philipps is a graduate of LTC’s Materials Management program. After a 26-year career at Eggers Industries Inc., he founded Woodland Face Veneer with his wife, Sharon, in 2002, and is the president and owner.
