How do I prepare for the GED and HSED tests?
You can prepare for the test by enrolling in classes at LTC Manitowoc or LTC Sheboygan.

Am I eligible to take the GED tests?
You're eligible to take the tests if you're a Wisconsin resident and aren't currently enrolled in and have not graduated from high school. You need to be 18 ½ years or older, or your high school class needs to have graduated. There isn't an upper age limit.

What scores do I need to pass the GED?
It's necessary to acquire 2250 standard score points to complete the GED tests. This is an average of 450 points on each of the five tests. Although a passing test score can be as low as 410, you'd need to score over 450 in several of the other test areas to bring the overall average back up.

Can I take the test over if I don't pass?
You need to retake any GED, Civic Literacy or Health test if you don't achieve the minimum score. Eligibility for a test retake needs to be meet. Contact LTC online for more information.

How much does this cost?
The preparation classes at LTC are available at no tuition charge to you. The battery of five GED tests costs $75. Each GED subtest costs $15. If you're interested in obtaining the HSED, you are required to take the Health and/or Civics test at $6 each and complete employability skills for which there is no charge.

Do I need to bring anything on the test date?
The following are required items to take the test:

Do I need to complete an orientation before I take the test?
Yes. An orientation is held for all first time testers during the registration process. All first-time testers need to complete a Career Awareness class and GOAL overview before taking the GED/HSED test. These sessions are scheduled and available through LTC Manitowoc and LTC Sheboygan.
