Financial Assistance

Federal/State Financial Aid

In order to be eligible for federal/state aid (which includes grants, loans and work-study) you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can apply for federal/state aid online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Continuing students must reapply each academic year.

To apply online you must have or request a PIN (Personal Identification Number) for you and, if necessary, your parents. This allows you to electronically sign your application. Request a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov.

LTC’s School Code is 009194.

Grants are federal and state aid that do not have to be paid back as long as the student satisfactorily completes the semester for which the grant was received. These grants include:

  1. Federal Pell Grant
  2. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
  3. Wisconsin Higher Education Grant (WHEG)
  4. Talent Incentive Program Grant (TIP)
  5. Wisconsin Indian Assistance Grant (WIAG)

Loans are borrowed money that must be repaid by the student with interest.

  1. Repayment begins six months after the student stops attending school at least half-time. As of July 1, 2010, all Subsidized Federal Direct Loans are locked in at 4.5% interest rate for the duration of the loan. All Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans are locked in at 6.8%. A Direct Subsidized Loan does not accrue interest while in school, during the grace period, or in a deferment period.
  2. Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans are not based on need. Thus, most students enrolled in college at least half-time are eligible. The interest accrues in all statuses beginning from the day it was disbursed until the date it is paid in full. Students can make interest payments or let the interest accrue and capitalize it when repayment begins. Interest statements will be mailed through the U.S. Postal Service twice each calendar year in January and July.

Work–Study is a part–time job on or off campus. Students are paid an hourly wage for working at designated work sites.

Payment Options

Cash: Students are responsible for payment of their fees on or before the following dates or their registration will be cancelled:

Check/Credit Card: LTC accepts MasterCard or Visa. Both check and credit card payments are accepted online at My LTC.

Installment Payment Plan: Students may participate in the Installment Payment Plan if their fees are over $200. The first installment is due June 4 (summer semester), August 15 (fall semester) or January 10 (spring semester). A $25 fee may be applied per semester to participate in the payment plan. Students are able to enroll in the payment plan online at My LTC.

Financial Aid: Students receiving financial aid must have a completed financial aid file by July 30 (fall semester) or December 23 (spring semester) to have their tuition and fees deferred. If financial aid does not cover the entire amount owed to LTC, the student is liable for the immediate payment of the balance.

Agency/Employer Sponsorship: If financial assistance is provided on behalf of a student by an agency or an employer, written authorization from the sponsor must be on file by July 30 to allow the student to defer payment of tuition, fees and books (per the sponsor authorization). The sponsor will be billed directly for the authorized costs. If the sponsor does not cover the entire amount of the student’s tuition and fees, the student must choose from the above options for the remaining balance. Book costs may not be deferred unless covered by the sponsorship. If a tuition refund is due, third-party sponsorships may be given priority.

Consumer Beware!

Students are cautioned not to pay a fee to agencies which offer scholarship search services or financial aid consulting services without first checking the validity of that agency.
